TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE

 

v                                                     Pumps and Pumping Stations

                                 

          §     Consulting assignments for the Organization for the Execution of the Greater Cairo Wastewater Project (CWO)  through different contracts, with CST, that cover :

¨        East bank lifting stations, the consultations are directed to identify the malfunctions of the equipment at Amiria – Khosous – Kalag and to define the responsibility of the contractors regarding these malfunctions. On the other hand, consultants are involved in arbitration between CWO and GOSD.  Consultant’s task includes also the follow up of maintenance requirements and implementation.

 

 

¨         Gabal Elasfar, the consultations cover assisting CWO engineering staff during the whole phases of the project (construction – operation – maintenance). Regular meetings are held between different parties : CWO – AMBRIC – CST – GOSD  and CONTRACTOR in order to follow up the current situations, to discuss any troubles and solve any problems such as :

o         Screw pumps: bearings’ troubles – gear box – penstocks – tests and performance evaluation.

o         Primary sludge pumps: testing, performance evaluation and assessment of performance deviations.

o         Acceptance tests of dual fuel diesel generators.

o         Gas holders operation and troubles, etc.

 

¨         Amiria lifting station, CST consultants are nominated to suggest the necessary equipment modifications in order to upgrade the performance and improve conditions of operation and maintenance. The scope of work includes tunnel pumps repair and improving seals, fire fighting system for stand-by diesel generators, etc.

 

        §          Performance Upgrading of Pumps Manufactured in the Equipment Factories, Sugar and Integrated Industries Company (SIIC), 1992-1995. A program was proposed for testing the different types of pumps produced at the equipment factories. Test results were evaluated and many modifications were suggested and implemented to improve overall performance. More than ten types of centrifugal pumps were modified.

        §          Local Manufacture of Centrifugal Pumps, Sponsored by ENPPI, 1994-1995. A complete design, manufacturing and testing of a centrifugal pump was carried out according to API standard. The pump design was successful and target design parameters were verified.

        §          Design of a Testing Station for Pumps, SIIC. The project included the complete design of a test loop for evaluation of centrifugal pump performance, specification of instrumentation & bidding, supervision of construction and preparation for operation.

        §          Design, Manufacture & Testing of 6000 M3/hr Vacuum Pump, Sugar & Integrated Industries Company (SIIC), 1995-1998. The design and manufacture of a vacuum pump of the liquid ring type was very successful. The pump is widely used now in all the factories of SIIC.

        §          Head of the technical committee for the inspection of the fire fighting pumps, the new building of the Ministry of External Affairs.

§      Head of the technical committee for the inspection of vacuum pumps, Tanta Oil and Soap Company.

§      Design, Manufacture & Testing of 1.1 M3/h, 5 m head Mixed-Flow Pump, Sugar & Integrated Industries Company (SIIC), 2003-2004. Five pumps were manufactured, installed and tested successfully in Horia Pumping Station, North of Tahrir.

        §          Testing and performance evaluation of many pumps for different authorities and companies.

        §          Inspection and assessment of the Tora waste water treatment plant – Ministry of Interior Affairs, 2006.

        §       Head of the committee for the preparation of technical specifications and tender documents for Marashda & Om-Doma Drainage Pumping Stations –Ministry of irrigation and water resources, 2005 -2006. Head of the technical committee for the inspection of the fire fighting pumps, the new building of the Ministry of External Affairs.

        §          Acceptance testing for the fire fighting pumping station , Egyptian Company for Production of  Vaccines and Sera (Vacsera).

        §          Performance evaluation of screw pumps at Helwan lifting station No.2, CWO

 

 

v                                                     Power Generation and Turbomachinery

 

        §          Performance Evaluation and Improvement of Local Thermal Power Stations. Sponsored by: FRCU through the Energy Research Center, Cairo University, 1985-1986. A complete program for performance evaluation was proposed and carried out according to ASME standards on different thermal power stations.

        §          Preparation of tender documents and technical evaluation for the purchase of air compressors - Yeast factory, The Greater Cairo Bakery Company. The project included preparation of specification, tender documents, evaluation of beds and start up. 

        §          Cogeneration Studies in Egyptian Industrial Companies. Sponsored by: Organization for Energy Planning, 1987-1988. Fourteen industrial companies were selected to evaluate their potential for the implementation of cogeneration concept.

        §          Cogeneration and Energy Conservation in Egyptian Sugar Factories. Sponsored by: Organization for Energy Planning, 1988-1989. A detailed study was carried out in sugar factories to apply energy conservation and cogeneration concepts and to maximize the gain from burning the bagasse.

        §          Implementation of a Novel Thermal Cycle for Utilization of Heat from Solar Bonds, Sponsored by: FRCU, Supreme Council of Universities, 1988-1991. The project included the design of turbomachinary components, specification & purchase of control instrumentation and monitoring of operation.

        §          Energy Conservation in Sugar Factories, Energy Research Center, Cairo University, 1991-1994. In this study the system of burning bagasse was evaluated in order to improve the combustion process and improve boiler efficiency.

        §          Minimizing Energy Loss in Egyptian Thermal Power Stations, Sponsored by Academy of Since, 1992-1995. Performance evaluation of different thermal power plants was carried out and the different sources of energy loss were identified and appropriate recommendations for remedy were suggested.

        §          Survey and Evaluation of Steam Boilers in the Egyptian Industry, Sponsored by Organization for Energy Conservation & Planning, 1992.

        §          Exploring the feasibility of electric power generation from large wind farms at the Gulf Suez area, sponsored by New and Renewable Energy Authority (NERA), 1992. A detailed study was carried out to evaluate wind energy potential and to determine the suitable capacity of wind turbines and the size of wind farms and costing of power production.

        §          Exploring the feasibility of utilizing gas turbine exhaust gases for seawater desalination in the Suez Gulf Zone, Sponsored by Organization for Energy Conservation & Planning & 1994. Gas turbine units installed in different oil companies at Suez Gulf zone were evaluated for the implementation of cogeneration by using the exhaust gases for desalination of sea water. The study reveals that there is a good potential for applying this method for producing potable water economically suitable for the project area.

        §          Assessment the economical feasibility of purchase of used gas turbine units for Sinai Manganese Company. The task included the inspection of two GE gas turbines belonging to Alexandria Electricity Authority, evaluating the suitable purchase cost for the Manganese Company, the cost of dismantling, transportation and reinstallation in Sinai. 

        §          Inspection of the Failure of Turbine Blades at Kous Sugar Factory, 2000. The failed steam turbine was examined in order to identify the root cause of the last stage-blades failure and to sort out the dispute between sugar factory and Misr insurance company as an independent arbitrator.

        §          Study of the troubles and failure of the turbines of Kuraimat Thermal Power Station, 2001.    Turbines of Kuraimat power station (2x600 MW) suffered from many mechanical troubles that caused excessive vibrations blades and labyrinth seals failure. Records of data acquisition system was studied and analyzed in order to define the causes of failure.

        §          Turbomachinary consultant – Project of Al-Aarish gas compressor station, Gas East Company, 2007.

        §          Member of the technical committee for studying the side effects of The Red Sea – Dead Sea Canal Project, Faculty of Engineering –Cairo University, 2007.

 

 

v                                                     Mechanical Equipment for Industrial Systems

 

        §          Evaluation and Redesign of Ash Separators for Baggase Boilers in Sugar Factories, (SIIC), 1998. A detailed study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of ash separators used with Dia bagasse boilers. These boilers suffered from high ash contents in the chimney and were not complying with environmental law. The ash separator was modified to improve the  system effectiveness and its reflection on environmental safety.

        §          Evaluation of Automated American Bakeries Project, Sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Interior Trading. The Project has been implemented through the Development Research and Technological Planning Center, Cairo University, 1985. Acceptance and performance tests were carried out and equipment troubles were identified.

        §          Semi-Automated Balady Bread Lines, the Ministry of Supply and Interior Trading. The project included preparation specification and evaluation of technical proposals.

        §          Assessment of GATT effects on energy consuming equipment in The Egyptian Industrial Sector, Sponsored by Organization for Energy Conservation & Planning, 1998- 1999. The project assessed the national energy policies in that respect.

 

 

        §          Assessment of the insurance contractual documents covering all the factories of The Sugar and Integrated Industries Company (SIIC). The target was to specify and suggest the most suitable way for equipment insurance in order to avoid  any conflict, in case of any accident,  regarding insurance contracts.

        §          Evaluation and assessment of tender procedures for procurement of clay box feeders, Misr Company for Produce & Selling Bricks, 2007.
